Via the experiences of young gay men confronting homophobic violence in Wyoming, criminalized female inmates enacting agency under correctional control, and UW female students of color speaking back to the White hegemonic order, our racially diverse, interdisciplinary panel takes to task the exclusionary forces at work in the “Equality State.”

Austin is a Latino undergraduate attending the University of Wyoming where he studies communication and gender studies. His research interests include sexuality and gender in rural spaces, HIV/AIDS acquisition among rural populations, psychoanalysis, and memory in rural spaces. Dr. Tracey Owens Patton is Director of African American & Diaspora Studies as well as a Professor of Communication in the Department of Communication and Journalism at The University of Wyoming. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Utah.
